At Ropes & Gray, Mr. McElhinney represented property owners in more than 100 cases involving Superfund and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection-deemed hazardous waste sites. From 1998 to 2003, Mr. McElhinney worked as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Newton, Massachusetts-based Willowbend Development, LLC, for which he oversaw the legal and business side of all acquisition, development, and finance activities related to a $2 billion real estate portfolio. In this capacity, he helped manage commercial, residential, and hotel projects located across North America and the Caribbean.
Currently, John E. McElhinney balances his responsibilities overseeing his firm with active involvement in the Boston Bar Association and The Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts. A generous professional, Mr. McElhinney served as a pro bono counselor for the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation and the Home Funders initiative to raise capital for subsidized affordable housing loans.
